If you carry a mounted spare, it won't do you much good if it is flat when you need it.
I have seen some studies indicating that most spare tires have lost more than 75% of their inflation pressure.

When we bought our first 5th Wheel, I equipped all the tires, including the spare, with the tire alarm that monitors pressure and temperature. No surprises when I needed to use the spare in the middle of New Mexico. Cheap insurance.
